The main screen layout

The main screen items

The main screen is laid out as shown below, with the main areas numbered and explained beneath :

  1. The main menu - click on an item to show another menu of further options.
  2. The main toolbar - hover the mouse over one of the images to find out what it does. Click the image or icon to perform the action. These are typically short cuts to the most commonly used actions for viewing the map.
  3. The map legend - this shows the map scale, north pointer and opposing sides and need not be positioned in the top-left of the map.
  4. The main map view - the most important bit of the screen showing the map itself.
  5. Scroll bars - if the currently displayed map is bigger than the area of screen showing it, use these scroll bars to move around the map.
  6. Details tabs - click on the tabs to display textual information on the battle itself, the currently displayed phase or the currently selected unit or object in section 7.
  7. The details area - this is where the textual information chosen with the details tabs is shown.
  8. Item tree panel shrink - click this pointer to shrink the tree panel (area 9) so more of the map can be seen. Once the tree panel has shrunk, the icon will change and clicking it again sets the panel back to its original size.
  9. The item tree panel - This section of the screen shows, in a nested or tree view, the map, its phases and the objects contained on those phases. Clicking on a '+' expands the item to show things contained within it. Clicking on a '-' hides those contained items.
  10. Details area shrink - as in (8), this button shrinks the details area to display more of the map and clicking again restores the details area to its original size.

Changing the panel sizes

The size of both the tree panel and the details panel can be changed. You can do this be hovering the mouse pointer over the bar separating the panels from the main map view (the pointer will change to a two-headed arrow) then pressing and holding the left mouse button while to move the mouse, 'dragging' the bar to it's new position. When you're happy with the new size, release the mouse button.
